Replace Two Crutches with a Wheeleo®

HomeBlog

In this clinical case, we observe an individual who typically uses two crutches for mobility. This choice of walking aid allows them to maintain two constant points of support on the ground, a reassuring pattern: one foot and one crutch, then the other foot and the other crutch. While effective in most situations, this method of movement quickly reveals its limitations when performing daily tasks that require greater freedom of movement.

Indeed, using two crutches constantly occupies both hands. Walking becomes an activity that demands full attention, leaving very little room to interact with the environment. Carrying a bag, holding a cup of coffee, opening a door, or even holding a spouse’s hand becomes complicated, if not impossible.

It is in this context that the introduction of the Wheeleo® profoundly changed their way of moving. The Wheeleo offers constant ground support, present 100% of the time during the walking cycle. This fundamental characteristic allows the user to regain the desired stability while requiring the use of only one hand. Whether the right or left foot is on the ground, the user can rely on stable and continuous support, providing a sense of security comparable to that offered by two crutches.

The functional contribution of the Wheeleo® is particularly notable. By freeing up one hand, it enables the user to perform many daily actions that were previously difficult or impossible. The person can now carry a bag, handle their phone, or simply carry a cup of coffee while walking. When they need to use both hands, for instance, to serve a drink, they can release the Wheeleo® for a few seconds and then retrieve it, without the risk of the walking aid falling to the ground.

This case perfectly illustrates the benefit of the Wheeleo® for individuals who require double ground support to stabilize their gait, while also seeking greater functional autonomy. The improvement extends beyond the quality of walking to include the ability to interact with the environment and perform daily activities more easily.

This type of evolution has a direct impact on quality of life: walking becomes more fluid, movements more natural, and daily actions more accessible. This clinical case demonstrates that the choice of a walking aid is not solely about stability. It also influences autonomy, confidence, and active participation in daily life.
