Despite this, its positive impact on people with mobility limitations is undeniable. In this article, the fruit of several years’ experience in neurological rehabilitation at the Centre Hospitalier Neurologique William Lennox in Belgium, I’d like to share in 12 points everything you need to know about the Wheeleo®, in the hope of sparking discussion and inviting you to try it out.

1. A one-handed Rollator :

Wheeleo® is the equivalent of a one-handed rollator, ideal for people with hemiplegia or space restrictions in the home. It’s the perfect transition between a rollator and a cane.

2. Always in the Right Place :

Contrary to initial fears, the Wheeleo® naturally stays in the right place, offering comfort and safety. Its lateral movement follows the patient’s movements without tipping, reducing the risk of falling.

3. Smooth running :

Wheeleo® significantly improves gait fluidity, enabling a transition to a more symmetrical and rapid gait. A clinical study revealed an average 50% improvement in walking speed.

4. Symmetry :

By avoiding three-step walking, Wheeleo® encourages a more symmetrical gait, reducing the risk of asymmetry due to cane movement.

5. Settings :

Height-adjustable and adaptable for right- or left-hand use, the Wheeleo® offers optimum patient comfort, while allowing adjustments to correct various imbalances.

6. A Brake? :

Unlike rollators, the Wheeleo® has no brakes. Wheeleo® adapts dynamically. When the user starts, the Wheeleo® starts. When the user stops, the Wheeleo® stops.

7. Cognitive load + Low :

The Wheeleo® requires less attention than a conventional cane, offering a more natural gait and enabling the patient to concentrate on important aspects of mobility. Coordination is easier and more natural.

8. All Terrain? :

Designed primarily for indoor use, the Wheeleo® may have its limitations on uneven outdoor terrain. However, alternative solutions are being studied. Indoor or outdoor, it’s the quality of the floor that counts. The castors must roll easily.

9. Energy consumption :

Preliminary clinical studies suggest lower energy expenditure with Wheeleo®, enabling patients to walk more efficiently over the same distance.

10. Short- and long-term notes :

The positive effects of Wheeleo® can be seen from the very first steps, offering a perceptible improvement. Early rehabilitation with the Wheeleo® could optimize the process, speeding up the patient’s recovery.

11. Rehabilitation and Mobility Aids :

First and foremost a rehabilitation tool, Wheeleo® supports patients from their very first steps, then continues to provide support for those with lasting after-effects. It is also the first walking aid used when mobility is reduced (seniors).

12. Social Security reimbursement :

Currently not reimbursed by social security, steps are underway to obtain the necessary approvals in various countries, reflecting the growing interest of healthcare professionals and patients alike. Find all the information you need about refunds on this page.

Conclusion:

The Wheeleo® represents a major advance in the field of mobility, offering an innovative alternative for patient rehabilitation and autonomy.
